The monestry was buid 1515 – 1517. Near the monastery Curtea de Argeș, lies the fountain of craftsman Manole , the legendary builder of the founding of NeagoeBasarab , the hero of several popular ballads.
Ballad “Monastery of Argeș” says that master Manole built his wife (Ana) on the walls of this magnificent monastery, because inexplicably everything that was built during the day was ruined at night. The legend also explains the fountain of Manole craftsman: when the ruler saw this great construction, he asked the ten craftsmen if they could build a monastery even more beautiful than this.
They answered in the affirmative, the ruler, in order to prevent the possible construction of a more beautiful monastery, ordered the scaffolding on which the masters were climbed to be turn down and so the “ten great craftsmen, calf and masonry” were stuck on the roof. They made wings out of shingles and threw themselves from the roof of the monastery hoping to get down unharmed, but all died.
The legend itself is definitely full of mystery and if by any chance you find your self around this place you definitely need to visit “Curtea de Arges”
